Materials You’ll Need:
- Clean mason jar or clear plastic container
- Small slips of paper or cardstock
- Pens or markers
- Ribbon, string, or yarn for decoration
- Optional: summer-themed stickers, dried flowers, shells, or washi tape
How to Make a Summer Memory Jar:
- Label the Jar:
Tie a ribbon around the top and label it “Summer Memories 2025” or something meaningful to you. - Write Your Memories:
On each slip of paper, write down a happy moment, quote, or sensory experience from this summer. Examples: - “The smell of fresh-cut grass”
- “Lemonade on the porch”
- “Laughing with my granddaughter on Canada Day”
- Fill the Jar:
Fold each slip and place it inside the jar. Add small trinkets if you wish, like a pressed flower or seashell, to bring your memories to life. - Display It Proudly:
Place the jar somewhere visible. Over time, the jar will become a time capsule of joyful summer moments!

Why This Activity Matters
Summer Memory Jars encourage:
- Mindfulness: A moment to pause and reflect on life’s little joys
- Memory recall: Especially helpful for those living with dementia
- Fine motor and cognitive engagement through writing and crafting
- Emotional wellness through gratitude and personal storytelling
- Connection: A chance for caregivers and loved ones to share moments together
These jars are also a lovely gift idea – something family members can revisit when they want to feel close to their loved one.
