At Ideal Caregivers 4U, we love finding creative ways to help seniors express themselves while supporting fine motor skills and memory. This week’s activity is colourful, calming, and easy to adapt for all ability levels: Summer Blossom Button Bouquets!
Using buttons, glue, and colorful craft paper, seniors can create a stunning bouquet that never fades — perfect for gifting or decorating their room with summer cheer. 🌸

Materials You’ll Need:
- A sheet of white cardstock or construction paper (for the background)
- Assorted colorful buttons (various sizes)
- Green craft paper (for stems and leaves)
- Scissors
- Glue sticks or craft glue
- Optional: markers or labels to write a name or message
Instructions:
- Prep the Workspace
Lay out a clean surface with all materials in easy reach. Let the senior select their favorite button colors — pastels, brights, or a rainbow mix! - Cut & Place Stems and Leaves
Cut long strips of green paper to create stems. Add simple leaf shapes and glue them in place first to build the foundation of the bouquet. - Arrange the Buttons
Start at the top of each stem and glue on large buttons for flower “centers.” Layer smaller buttons on top or around them to create a 3D flower look. - Customize & Finish
Add extra buttons for decorative accents, or write a message like “Happy Summer” or the senior’s name beneath the bouquet. Let dry fully before moving.

Why This Activity Matters
Summer Blossom Button Bouquets are more than just cute — they are:
- Great for fine motor coordination through gluing and arranging
- Stimulating for memory when paired with storytelling (“My mom had a dress with that button!”)
- Conversation starters in group or caregiver-led sessions
- Emotionally uplifting thanks to bright colors and a sense of accomplishment
- Perfect for gifting to a loved one or displaying with pride
This version is especially suitable for seniors with arthritis or limited hand strength — no threading or twisting needed.
