August 23rd is #NationalRidetheWindDay. This day celebrates the first human-powered flight to win the Kremer prize in 1977. Bryan Allen completes a figure-eight course piloting and powering the Gossamer Condor to claim the prize!

We thought it would be a great time to honour early flight and airplane technology by creating our own Airplanes using clothespins and other household or easy-to-find items. This is an activity that seniors would appreciate, as they can reminisce about travel or their experiences in the war as pilots, soldiers, and the like!
DIY Airplanes
Materials
Clothespins
Tongue depressors, popsicle sticks, or cardstock
Paint
Paintbrushes
Glue
Embellishments, such as stickers, foam shapes, etc.
Instructions
Begin by gathering all the materials together.
Paint the clothespins and the popsicle sticks in your favourite colours. Let the paint dry before assembling.
As an option, decorate with stickers, foam shapes, etc. and secure with glue, if needed.
Arrange the sticks as shown in the picture. Secure them with glue.
Allow the glue to dry completely.
Display your aircraft in an area where it will be seen, shared, and talked about!
