There have been a number of social media posts lately of families, couples, and friends going to sunflower fields to take selfies, group photos, or just simply enjoying the beauty of this special flower. So we thought we would search for some fun and easy sunflower crafts to do with our elderly loved ones and those in our care.
Adapted from a site we found online, here is a crafty art activity that gets your loved one involved and is easy to do and looks beautiful!
Here what you need:
Yellow craft/construction paper (at least 4 letter-sized sheets)
Black or Brown craft/construction paper
Scissors
Glue or glue stick
Paper plate
Here's how to make it:
Using the yellow construction paper, trace the outline of your loved one's hand. You may do this 4-6 times, but we found it's best to just do it once or twice, depending on their level of participation.
If tracing only once, layer the sheets of paper and cut all at once until you have about 4-6 handprints.
Using the sheet of black/brown craft paper, cut out a medium-sized circle (about the size of the palm of your hand)
With the paper plate, arrange the hand-prints in a circular flower pattern and glue down
Glue the circular cut-out in the center, as this would act at the centre of the sunflower (where all the yummy seeds are!). We've noticed some crafters online glue-down real sunflower seeds in the center of the flower, but we opted to use paper due to any possible allergies or choking hazards.
Let dry and hang or tape to a wall or window, and enjoy the beauty!
