Geometric Art Using Painter's Tape

One of the easiest ways to get the creative juices flowing is through art. You may not be a well-renowned painter, sculptor, or musician, but everyone has the ability to put paint on paper. As is the case with today's art project.

Geometric art is a simple design element using geometric shapes that many of us are familiar with at any age. Creating shapes such as triangles, squares, and rectangles using painter's tape and some paint can turn into a masterpeice!

Here's what you need:

  • Painters tape (usually called green tape, but comes in a variety of colours)

  • Tempera paint, acrylic, or watercolours

  • Canvas or white craft paper/cardstock

  • Paintbrush or small rollers

**Tape must be painter's tape as it has very little adhesive and won't stick to your paper**

Directions

  1. On your canvas or craft paper, place strips of painter's tape in various directions to create shapes in between each strip. This could be a simple checkered or square pattern or place tape at angles to create a triangle, pentagon or other multi-sided shapes.

  2. Make sure to press the tape down firmly to avoid any paint seeping underneath.

  3. Using your paintbrush and paint, begin to paint the spaces in between the painter's tape and directly onto the canvas or craft paper. You can also use a roller with your paint and paint right over the tape! The best part is, you don't have to be neat; you can get paint onto the tape without affecting your artwork!

  4. When you have completed your painting, gently peel away the strips of tape to reveal your beautiful geometric design!

  5. Set aside and let dry.

Displaying their own artwork or those by family members and friends can truly make a difference in your elderly loved one's life. It evokes emotion, familiarity, memories, and the comforts of home.
