Alzheimer's Society of Canada: First Link Program

January is Alzheimer's Awareness Month here in Canada, a time when we come together to raise awareness about dementia, provide valuable resources, and share our commitment to supporting families and individuals affected by Alzheimer's and dementia.

Throughout the month, we will explore various topics related to the impact of dementia on Canadians, where to find assistance, and how you can contribute.

Today, we will delve into a service offered by the Alzheimer Society called First Link®.

What is First Link?

If you or a loved one receives a dementia diagnosis beyond your medical practitioners, the Alzheimer's Society is here to provide support, care, knowledge, expertise, and referrals through First Link.

First Link® is a program by the Alzheimer's Society that offers approved services and information to those living with Alzheimer's or other dementias and their caregivers. It covers various aspects of dementia care and management in Canada, including Risk Reduction, Education, Living Well with the Disease, Community, Research, and Advocacy.

From the moment you are diagnosed with dementia and throughout the progression of the disease, First Link is there for you.

They can connect you with local resources and community support and provide guidance on healthcare options.

First Link can help you access dementia-focused health services, support, and information in your area, such as:

- One-on-one or group support services

- Connections to local healthcare providers and community services

- Opportunities to meet others facing similar circumstances and share experiences

- Assistance with planning for the future and managing the disease
