Bringing back nostalgic activities like knitting or sewing can be both fun and therapeutic for elderly loved ones.
In this week’s activity, we create 3-Dimensional felt hearts using only simple materials and sewing tools.
Here’s what you need
-
2 – 10 x 10″ felt squares in red, pink, white, or colour of choice
-
Embroidery needle and Cotton thread
-
Stuffing or cotton batting
-
Scissors and pencil or marker
*Optional – ribbon, embroidery thread for hanging
Directions

-
Draw a heart shape on one sheet of felt. Cut out using scissors.
-
Using your cut-out, trace its shape on the second piece of felt so that both sides will match. Cut your second heart shape.
-
Place one heart shape on top of the other, sew the hearts together. Use a blanket stitch to sew around the outside edge of each heart, leaving one-inch of opening.
-
When about a one-inch opening remains, fill the heart with stuffing, then finish stitching to close the opening.
-
If you wish to hang your heart, stitch both ends of your ribbon to the top of your heart design.
